First there was the Andrew Wilkie betrayal, then the continuing saga of Craig Thomson MP, followed by Anthony Albanese’ rather silly plagiarism incident and now we have all seen our special national celebration of Australia Day overshadowed by ugly scenes of protest apparently involving the Prime Minister’s own office. None of this is helpful to the best interests of Australia. We need a government which is disciplined, focussed and competent to deal with steering the country through the domestic and international issues confronting us.
Cut backs in industry and the banking sector could have some locals looking at an uncertain employment future; others may have children who have recently left school or university and are seeking a start in the workforce. Unfortunately, the signs are not as bright as we could wish.
On a local note, I was pleased to participate recently at the fund-raising BBQ hosted by Cherrybrook Woolworths and run by our local Rotary at which funds were raised for Warrah, the Dural-based charity which provides much-needed services for people with an intellectual disability. With the support of shoppers and other store staff, a massive $1,240 was raised. This figure was then generously matched by Woolworths. I congratulate all who participated!
